Manny Pacquiao: Update on Possible Fights Against Valero, Soto, and Hatton!

Manny Pacquiao GraphicUpdates on Manny Pacquiao and his upcoming fight against Edwin Valero? or Humberto Soto? or Ricky Hatton?

I just read an interesting piece of news from Philboxing.com, billiards friends! The World Boxing Council (WBC) has given Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, aka The Pacman, until July 28, 2008 to decide which between his two championships belts he would like to keep.

And with the different names being thrown around as Manny Pacquiao’s next possible opponent, who are mostly from the lightweight division, there is a strong possibility that the Filipino boxing icon will stay on in the 135 lb division.

From what I could gather, if Manny Pacquiao decides to relinquish the lightweight division title and keep the super-featherweight championship, Humberto Soto must fight The Pacman for the WBC super-featherweight world title, with Francisco Lorenzo fighting the winner. Hmmm. This is one interesting development, everyone! And I kid you not!

A brief background on this development, friends.

Humberto Soto and Francisco Lorenzo fought for the interim championship of the WBC super-featherweight division on June 28, 2008. The WBC set up the interim championship fight because Manny Pacquiao, the legitimate super-featherweight champion, was on the cusp of going up one weight division. However, because of the dubious decision on the Soto-Lorenzo boxing bout, which was an undercard in the Manny Pacquiao vs. David Diaz main event of the evening, the WBC decided to rule the interim-title match a no-contest.

After he defeated David Diaz, Manny Pacquiao held the lightweight and super-featherweight belts simultaneously. And lest I forget, he became the first Asian to win the Lightweight Championship of the World and the first Asian to win four world titles in four weight divisions!
