PartyPoker's World Cup of Pool: Updates on Bustamante & Orcollo!

The 2008 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool will officially start today, October 7, 2008, in Rotterdam, Holland, billiards buddies! And here’s some very good news! The Philippine tandem of Francisco Django Bustamante and Dennis Orcollo will have at least a day to practice and accustom themselves to the weather as they are scheduled to begin play on Thursday, October 9!

Francisco Bustamante, who has competed in all three editions of the World Cup since its debut in 2006, is from Puyat Sports, while Dennis Orcollo, aka The Robocop, comes from Bugsy Promotions. They will go up against a very strong 32-country field, which pits the best pairs of pool players from the world over, for the $60,000 top prize!

And how does one win the World Cup of Pool championship? A team needs to win five straight matches to take home the championship! Yes, you’ve read right, everyone! That’s five straight grueling matches against the world’s best! And I kid you not!

The Filipino Team’s first assignment is against Denmark’s Martin Larsen and Kasper Kristoffersen. China, meanwhile, will open its title-retention bid against India in the tournament’s first match Tuesday.

Other teams who will see action on opening day are: England’s Darryl Peach and Mark Gray vs. Malta’s Tony Drago and Alex Borg; Netherlands’ Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg vs. Belgium’s Serge Das and Noel Bruynooghe; Finland’s Mika Immonen and Markus Juva vs. Korea’s Jeong Young-Hwa and Kim Woong-Dae; Italy’s Fabio Petroni and Bruno Muratore vs. Peru’s Jhon Lopez and Juan Francisco Vega; and Switzerland’s Marco Tschudi and Dimitri Jungo vs. Hong Kong’s Lee Chenman and Kenny Kwok.
