Warren Kiamco Wins Manny Villar Cup Billiards Tournament!

Warren Kiamco GraphicCongratulations to Negros Billiard Stable’s Warren Kiamco for winning the 1st Senate President Manny Villar Cup billiards tournament held at the StarMall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City! The 38-year-old native of Cebu bagged the championship and the Php400,000 top prize with an 11-6 victory against Efren Bata Reyes, considered by many as the greatest pool player ever to wield a pool cue.

Known as one of Negros Billiard Stable’s most-feared players, Warren Kiamco, aka The Warrior, overcame Efren Bata Reyes’ three-rack advantage (5-2) in the early stage of the match by setting loose a 5-0 run iced with the championship’s first and only golden break to take the lead at 7-5.

A break gone dry on the 13th rack allowed Efren Bata Reyes back at the pool table – running out the balls and shortening The Warrior’s lead just to 1 rack at 7-6! However, the Magician failed to sink any ball on the break in the 14th rack. Determined and all, Warren Kiamco went back to the table and scored four straight racks to bag the championship and make history at 11-6!

Now I have been at the 1st Senate President Manny Villar Cup billiards tournament since day 1 and witnessed on hand how mentally tough the 3x US Bar Table Champion really is!

What is very apparent with The Warrior from
Jonathan Sy’s Negros Billiard Stable is his unmistakable rhythm when going for a shot. You could see on The Warrior’s face his intense focus and all when studying his options and lining up for a shot. And when going down to shoot, Warren Kiamco does it with a very brief pause – and with his eyes straight on the object ball!

And another thing I noticed about Negros Billiard Stable’s Warren Kiamco? He is poised. And he is well mannered, too. After clinching the championship, Warren Kiamco was interviewed by Solar Sports’ TV panel, who asked for his thoughts on the win. His reply: “This title is very special special because I won it against Efren Bata Reyes, the best player in the world!”

Now, to have that deep sense of respect for the game and his opponent, and to have that presence of mind and heart to say such after winning the biggest billiards tournament in the land, has got to tell you something about this particular Filipino pool player! That truly, Warren Kiamco is not just one tough Warrior – he is The Ultimate Warrior of the pool world! And I kid you not!

Congratulations Warren! Mabuhay!
