Roberto Gomez Wins First Senate President Manny Villar Cup!
The 29-year-old Filipino pool player from Bugsy Promotions bagged the championship and Php300,000 top prize with a 11-4 win over Gandy Valle, also from Bugsy Promotions, one of the country’s premier billiards clubs. Valle received Php120,000 for placing 1st runner-up.
Roberto Gomez dedicated his impressive victory to his one-year-old daughter Samantha Gomez. Superman is the runner-up in the 2007 World Pool Championship, while Gandy Valle is an Asian Games gold medalist and winner of the Cebu Leg of the First Senate President Manny Villar Cup 9-Ball Open.
Other highlights of the star-studded event:
Alex Pagulayan, aka The Lion, wowed the crowd with his trick shots after the finals match, while Efren Bata Reyes of Puyat Sports dazzled spectators with his magical shots as he defeated 2x world champion Ronnie Alcano with a 5-1 score in their 15-ball rotation exhibition match!
Lest I forget, the Visayas is being tagged as the next stop of the Villards Cup: Tulong sa Pagsulong ng Philippine Sports! And I kid you not! The billiards competition is sponsored by Senator Manny Villar in close cooperation with the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP).
