The National Billiards League: More Info on the NBL!
From what I could gather, NBL has received an overwhelming support from the local billiards community, particularly the Filipino pool players who are all very excited to start what everyone is calling “The new era of Philippine billiards!”
After successfully realizing a television partner in Solar Sports, which will broadcast the billiards matches for the league’s inaugural season, NBL’s main proponents, i.e., Aristeo “Putch” Puyat of Puyat Sports, Perry Mariano of Bugsy Promotions, and Jonathan Sy of Negros Billiard Stable, and NBL Commissioner Martin Misa, are now negotiating with several companies to fund the teams.
The NBL met with the country’s top pool players from the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) and formally invited them to join the league. Dubbed as the next big thing in Philippine sports entertainment, NBL is scheduled to start its maiden run in late 2008, with an impressive eight team line-up!
And for my pool player friends sending queries and all about the complaints of BMPAP players against Yen Makabenta, I just got hold of a copy of the said document! And I kid you not! The signed document details some of the players’ reasons for bolting out of the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines and more! Here are a couple of screenshots of the said document, everyone.
To everyone hard at wok in making the National Billiards League a reality, good luck! Truth be told, your passion for the sport that we all love, coupled with the right people, marketing mix, and all, will indeed herald in a new era in Philippine sports entertainment! Mabuhay!
"We are living in the age of The AnitoKid!"

The NBL looks like a great idea and would be very exciting to watch, I know that Holland also have a Pro League (that is not televised) so it can be done. It would also be good to see more of these team events pop up and we could then perhaps see a development into an International challenge etc... I am keeping my ears to the ground on this one.
It's history in the making, indeed!
The country's best grouped into 8 teams! NOw, that is something!
And I kid you not!
