Iris Ranola Wins Arizona Women's Billiard Tour Stop Labor Day Weekend!

Iris Ranola Graphic

Guess what billiards buddies, pool players, and fans of the cue sport! Filipino pool player Iris Ranola defeated Emily Wilmoth twice to take the top spot in the Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour Stop Labor Day weekend! Ranola and Wilmoth were among the 26 entrants who signed on to the $500-added event at Pockets in Tucson, Arizona!

The matches played out among the competition’s final 12 players, including 6 double-hill struggles. This included the two that Iris Ranola, aka The Fighting Iris, and Wilmoth played; first among the final four winners and later, in the finals. However, it was Michelle Micik, who won a hill-hill battle over Nicole Keeney to advance to the hot seat match against The Fighting Iris, coached and trained in the Philippines under the watchful eye of Edgar Boyet Asonto, one of the coaches of the Philippine Team in billiards. Iris Ranola sent Michelle Micik to the semifinals with a 7-3 victory and awaited the result.

Emily Wilmoth defeated Michelle Micik with a 7-4 score and headed back to meet Iris Ranola in a true double-elimination finals that went only one set. The two pool players battled each other to a 4-4 tie before Wilmoth called for a break. The players took one. When they returned, Emily Wilmoth surged ahead by two to reach hill first! But truth be told, The Fighting Iris fought to the end and came back to take the next three and the first-place prize! And I kid you not!

Congratulations Iris! Mabuhay!
