The premier grassroots development program of the Pool Capital of the World is a year-round series of tournaments. It has attracted over 300 players from all over the country, including Mike Takayama, a 19-year-old Filipino-Japanese, who bested a very strong field to rule the event’s inaugurals. Mike Takayama’s victory netted Php40,000 plus a berth in the 2009 Villar Cup!
According to my good friend, Perry Mariano, co-founder of the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP), “This is part of the BMPAP’s commitment to keep RP billiards to its world-class status by discovering new talents.”
In 2008, “Billiards Idol” held an impressive 15 preliminary legs, including provincial stops in Davao and Bacolod, and a grand finals showdown, which featured the 27 top finishers in the preliminaries.
*For those not in the know, the other Billiards Idol legs will be held on February 22, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21, July 19, August 16, September 18, October 20, November 22, and December 13, 2009.
