Jasmin Ouschan Wins 2010 Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship!

Jasmin Ouschan Graphic

Austria’s Jasmin Ouschan finally quenched her thirst for a first-ever world title by ruling the 2010 Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship in a come-from-behind 10-6 win over South Korea’s Ga Young Kim at Robinson’s Galeria!

Jasmin Ouschan initially trailed Ga Young Kim during the championship, 0-4. However, the cue artist from Klagenfurt, who skipped the 2010 US Open Championship to prepare for the event, won the next seven racks to take control, 7-4, on the way to posting the biggest win of her young career!

Truth be told, I will never the words Jasmin uttered when she won! Fighting off the tears, Ouschan said, “WOOOO! I can’t believe that this is happening! I’ve been waiting for so long to get this! It’s special because I’m playing in the billiards capital of the world!”

For those not in the know, the 2005 World Games gold medalist went unbeaten in the prestigious tournament - winning five matches in the group stages! And I kid you not! Jasmin then nipped Miyuki Fuke, Karen Corr, and Kelly Fisher to reach the finals.

Jasmin Ouschan was awarded the gold WPBA medal, a trophy, and the winner’s check of $20,000.

Congratulations, Jasmin! Mabuhay!

Rubilen Amit in Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship Semis!

Rubilen Amit Graphic

Update on the 2010 Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship: Reigning World 10-Ball Champion Rubilen Amit is now making big strides in her defense of the World Women’s 10-Ball Championship! And I kid you not!

The Philippines’ First Lady of Pool scored three important victories, i.e., two in stunning fashion and one via the backdoor, to storm her way into the semifinals round of this prestigious World Pool-Billiard Association-sanctioned event!

Rubilen Amit needed to go through the Round-of-24 after she was denied an outright Round-of-16 berth by Chinese Taipei's Tsai Pen Chen, who nipped her with a 6-2 win. But, truth be told, Bingkay struck back with a vengeance – trashing Canada's Joanne Ashton and China's Han Yu with 8-2 and 8-7 wins, respectively. Bingkay continued her fine showing by stopping Norway’s Line Kjoersvik with a smothering 8-2 score!

In the crossover, Rubilen Amit will face Korea’s uber-sexy pool goddess, Ga-Young Kim.

The winner of this five-day event will receive $20,000.

Go Bingkay! The entire nation is rooting for you!
Mabuhay ka, kaibigan!

Rubilen Amit & Chen Tsai Pei at Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship! More Updates!

Rubilen Amit Graphic2010 Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship Update: Chinese Taipei’s Chen Tsai Pei won against Rubilen Amit, aka Bingkay, in a duel of leaders, scoring a 6-2 win to sweep Group I of the 2010 Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship at the Nuvo City in Libis, Quezon City.

The 27-year-old Chen Tsai Pei, the reigning China 9-Ball Open winner, took five straight racks after giving up the opening frame to carve a victory over Rubilen Amit, the reigning World 10-Ball champion, and top their group with a 5-0 (win-loss) performance.

Chen capped her win of Amit with three straight combinations as she turned a 0-1 deficit into a 5-1 lead. Despite the loss, Bingkay still made it through the knockout phase among 24 players with a 4-1 slate. The knockout stage starts tomorrow, Thursday.

Up 2-1, Chen Tsai Pei credited the victory over the former World 9-Ball runner-up and double gold medalist in the 2009 Laos Southeast Asian Games to her powerful breaks and safety shots. In addition, she made 2-10, 1-10 and 1-10 combos in the fourth to sixth racks and could have finished the match if not for a missed shot on the 8-ball. This allowed Rubilen Amit to snatch the seventh rack and cut her deficit to just 2-5.

However, the Philippines’ First Lady of Pool made a foul shot in the eighth rack, which allowed Chen to clean up the table for the win.

Iris Ranola came one rack shy of advancing to the knockout stage. However, she dropped a 2-6 setback to Japan’s Miyuki Fuke in Group 5. Ranola, a runner-up in the 2008 US Open, finished in a five-way tie for first place, but wound up last after the tiebreak. She ended up with the lowest total games won.

Korean Yu Ram Cha, who defeated Spanish Amalia Matas, 6-2, clinched the first berth with 27 won games while Fuke and Chinese Wu Jing sealed the other spots with scores of 20 and 21, respectively. Matas actually tied Fuke and Jing with 25 apiece but ended up with the lowest total games in another tiebreak.

Former world champion Kelly Fisher posted a 6-3 win over 12-year-old Filipina Gillian Go to top Group 3 with a 5-0 record while Austria’s Jasmine Ouschan humbled Chun Zheng Xiao of China, 6-1, to finished unscathed in Group 7.

In Group 4, Yu Han of China humbled heavy favorite Ga Young Kim of Korea, 6-5, for a 5-0 sweep. However, the former three-time US Open champ and East Asian Games gold medal winner also advanced with a 4-1 card.

Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship: Updates for 2nd Day!

2010 Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship update: The reigning world champion Rubilen Amit, aka Bingkay, won against compatriot Ana Tulauan, 6-1, to stay unbeaten in the 2010 Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship on Tuesday, September 26, 2010, at the Nuvo City Showroom in Libis, Quezon City!

The 29-year-old Rubilen Amit was all about focus today – displaying one spectacular shot after another! And I kid you not! She will be representing the Pool Capital of the World in the Guangzhou Asian Games where she is scheduled for competition in the 8-Ball and 9-Ball tours.

For those not in the know, the three best players from each of the six-woman, eight groups will advance to the knockout stage. However, those who gained the top spot in each group automatically secure an outright spot in the last 16.

Filipino pool player Zemonette Oryan scored against Jargelyn Maldonado with a 6-1 finish. However, Iris Ranola, suffered a 6-4 setback at the hands of Amalia Matas of Spain, while Mika Claveria and Mildred Almero were trounced by Julie Kelly and Jasmin Ouschan in groups 4 and 7, respectively. Meanwhile, Ga-Young Kim of South Korea defeated American Julie Kelly, 6-3, for her second win. Japanese Akimi Katijani handed Korean Eunji Park her first defeat with as 6-4 win.

It’s not yet over, folks! Go, go, go Pinoy bilyaristas!

Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship: Updates on Day 1!

Update on the 2010 Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship:

The Pool Capital of the World’s 1st Filipina World Champion, Rubilen Amit, scored a 6-3 win over the United States’ Angel Paglia in her first match in the ongoing 2010 Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship!

The 28-year-old Filipina, the reigning world 10-ball champion, got off to a fast start. Believe you me, the opening rack was over in just 166 seconds – way before the crowd warmed up their seats – and it was 2-0 in favor of Bingkay!

After a dry break from Rubilen Amit, her first of three for the match, Angel Paglia rose from her chair to cut the deficit to 2-1. In the fourth rack, Paglia penalized herself after sinking the No. 5 on the left corner pocket.

“I fouled. I touched the cue ball with my stick. It’s yours,” she told Rubilen Amit of her infraction that escaped the eyes of Filipino referee Troy Danao. Amit said her thanks as she got up, and with ball in hand she cleared the rack and moved up to 3-1.

“I felt it (foul). I just didn’t know if I should tell it to the referee or Rubilen. I was really focused in the match but then somehow I lost it. Then I felt a little shaky,” said Angel Paglia. Paglia was rewarded for her honesty when Amit had a dry break on the fifth rack. The American did not waste the opportunity with a perfect 7-and-10 combination for a 3-2 count.

She had the equalizer on her hands when she was trailing 4-3. But she committed another foul using the bridge for what looked like an easy shot with the No. 9. In this rack, Rubilen Amit also had a couple of miscues, on the No. 4 and No. 7. However, they did not really matter because Paglia had her own each time she was given a chance.

Soon it was 5-3 and then 6-3 for the Filipina champion!

“It only showed how nervous I was. I had a couple of misses, too. But I hope to do better in my next match!” said Amit, one of the favorites for the $20,000 champion’s purse.

World No. 1 Allison Fisher of England also got off to a good start, scoring a 6-2 win over Venezuelan beauty Mirjana Grujicic. Canada’s Tiffany Bryant won against the Philippines’ pool wonder, Gillian Go (6-2). Gillian Go finished in the top 18 in the inaugural Women’s World 10-Ball Championship held last year at The Block, SM City North Edsa Quezon City. For those not in the know, she was just 12 years old then! And I kid you not!

To Rubilen, Gillian and the rest of the Filipina pool players – we wish you the best of luck! The whole country is rooting for you! Mabuhay!

An Uber-Beautiful Leather Custom Cue Case by John Barton of JB Cases!

Friends, please check out my new, one-of-a-kind, leather custom cue case made by none other than the world’s best cue case maker, Mr. John Barton of JB Cases!

This uber-beautiful leather custom case features real leather and heavy tooling. It comes in the configuration of one of my favorite cue cases – The Instroke Cue Cases. Do notice the rivets at the front and back! I simply love 'em! And for those not in the know, Instroke Cue Case was founded by Mr. John Barton in 1991. I still remember the day I saved enough money to buy my very first Instroke Cue Case, i.e., a 2x4 Instroke Cowboy! And I still have the case! As beautiful as the day I acquired her!

It goes without saying that Mr. John Barton made use of only the finest leather and materials in The AnitoKid case! Such include the use of magnetic puzzle latches so no moving parts to break ever!

Truth be told, this leather custom case is more than such! It is a work of art! But wait! I’m getting ahead of myself! I will let the pictures do the talking from here on! Hope you enjoy ‘em!

Here are the rest of the pics - please click here.

To John and Karen,

Many thanks for taking time out in making my dream cue case a reality! It is far beyond what I had in mind! Indeed, IT IS one uber-work of art! And I kid you not!

Ronnie Alcano Wins 2010 Sangsom Pattaya 9-Ball Championship in Thailand!

Congratulations to Filipino pool player Ronnie Alcano, aka The Volcano, for winning the 2010 Sangsom Pattaya 9-ball invitational pool championship Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the Royal Garden Plaza in Pattaya, Thailand!

Ronnie Alcano, who plays for Bugsy Promotions, beat compatriot Lee Vann Corteza, aka The Slayer, 11-7, in an all-Filipino final to win the championship and the 300,000 Baht (about Php435,000) cash prize. The Volcano stormed into the finals with a win against fellow Bugsy Promotions player, Dennis Orcollo, aka Robocop, 10-3, in the semi-finals.

The finals match was all about excitement as The Volcano successfully fended off a late charge by Lee Vann Corteza to score his first title since winning the 2009 Galveston Classic in Texas. Alcano initially managed to garner a 4-0 lead in the course of the match. However, Corteza managed to tie the score at the 14th rack - 7-all! A scratch on the next rack saw The Volcano capitalizing – sweeping the next three racks to score the win!

For those not in the know, Ronnie Alcano captured the 8-Ball Title in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, and the World 9-Ball Championship in the same year – 2007.  And I kid you not! Lee Vann Corteza, on the other hand, is currently ranked No. 2 in the world. He plays for the Negros Billiards Stable and JSY Sports. The Slayer is actively endorsed by Kopiko and Energen.

Some of the pool players who participated in the invitational tournament included Efren Reyes, Dennis Orcollo, Stevie Moore, Darren Appleton, Hui Chang Lu, Che Wei Fu, and Chris Melling.

Congratulations Ronnie and Van-Van! Mabuhay!
