Ronnie Alcano Wins 2010 Sangsom Pattaya 9-Ball Championship in Thailand!

Congratulations to Filipino pool player Ronnie Alcano, aka The Volcano, for winning the 2010 Sangsom Pattaya 9-ball invitational pool championship Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the Royal Garden Plaza in Pattaya, Thailand!

Ronnie Alcano, who plays for Bugsy Promotions, beat compatriot Lee Vann Corteza, aka The Slayer, 11-7, in an all-Filipino final to win the championship and the 300,000 Baht (about Php435,000) cash prize. The Volcano stormed into the finals with a win against fellow Bugsy Promotions player, Dennis Orcollo, aka Robocop, 10-3, in the semi-finals.

The finals match was all about excitement as The Volcano successfully fended off a late charge by Lee Vann Corteza to score his first title since winning the 2009 Galveston Classic in Texas. Alcano initially managed to garner a 4-0 lead in the course of the match. However, Corteza managed to tie the score at the 14th rack - 7-all! A scratch on the next rack saw The Volcano capitalizing – sweeping the next three racks to score the win!

For those not in the know, Ronnie Alcano captured the 8-Ball Title in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, and the World 9-Ball Championship in the same year – 2007.  And I kid you not! Lee Vann Corteza, on the other hand, is currently ranked No. 2 in the world. He plays for the Negros Billiards Stable and JSY Sports. The Slayer is actively endorsed by Kopiko and Energen.

Some of the pool players who participated in the invitational tournament included Efren Reyes, Dennis Orcollo, Stevie Moore, Darren Appleton, Hui Chang Lu, Che Wei Fu, and Chris Melling.

Congratulations Ronnie and Van-Van! Mabuhay!
