World 9-Ball Championship 2011 in Doha, Qatar: Filipino Pool Players Will Gun It Out!

World 9-Ball Championship Qatar, Doha 2011 GraphicFilipino pool player Ronnie Alcano will try to become the first Filipino to win a triple crown in billiards when he competes in the 2011 World 9-Ball Championship in Doha, Qatar, on June 25 to July 2, 2011. Alcano, aka The Volcano, is currently ranked No. 2 under the World Pool-Billiard Association and plays for the Negros Billiards Stable and JSY Sports of businessman Jonathan Sy. He has won the World 9-Ball Championship and World 8-Ball title in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

Francisco Django Bustamante will also compete in the prestigious event. Bustamante, who plays for Puyat Sports, is making his title retention bid and will try to become only the fourth player to win the World 9-Ball crown at least twice. He is also in contention to become the third Filipino to win a world championship twice. Efren Bata Reyes and Alcano, are the only double world champions from the Pool Capital of the World.

Other Filipino pool players seeded in the event include Dennis Orcollo (Bugsy Promotions), Antonio Lining (Negros Billiards Stable and JSY Sports), Lee Vann Corteza (Negros Billiards Stable and JSY Sports), and Oliver Medenilla.

Some of the pool players from the international circuit who will see action in the 2011 World 9-Ball Championship in Doha, Qatar, include Earl “The Pearl” Strickland, Johnny “The Scorpion” Archer, Fong Pang Chao, Chang Jung Lin, Chris Melling, Thorsten Hohmann, Darren Appleton, Daryl Peach, Ralf Souquet, Mika Immonen, and Huidji See.
