Efren Bata Reyes Wins Spanish Open 9-Ball Championship!
Billiards buddies and pool players, please join me in congratulating our very own – Efren Bata Reyes, aka The Magician, – for winning the 2010 Spanish Open 9-Ball Championship in Vigo, Spain!
Yes, you read right, friends! The 56-year-old Efren Reyes, acknowledged by all as the greatest pool player to ever wield a pool cue, is champion once again! The Magician defeated Niels Feijen, aka The Terminator, of the Netherlands in an exciting finals showdown (11-8) to win the $8,000 grand prize and championship trophy!
Some of the notable greats defeated by The Magician en route to the finals include World 9-ball Champion Daryl Peach (9-6, Quarterfinals), his kumpadre, Francisco Django Bustamante (9-7, Semifinals), Amalia Matas Heredia (9-3, Round 32), and Carlos Cabello Ariza (9-3, Round 16).
As of press time, Efren Reyes’ total prize earnings for 2010 is a cool $69,580! And I kid you not!
Congratulations, Efren! Here’s looking forward to more wins and championships, kabayan! Mabuhay!
