Thorsten Hohmann Wins Philippine Open Pool Championship!
German world champions Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann battled it out on the Finals Day of the 2011 Philippine Open Pool Championship at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall in Mandaluyong City! With both pool players seeking their first title in the Pool Capital of the World, the two went toe-to-toe in a thrilling finale.
In the end, Hohmann, aka The Hitman, came up victorious and Souquet, aka The Kaiser, suffered another setback in Manila. Hohmann won against Souquet, 11-10, to capture the Philippine Open men’s championship and the $30,000 cash prize.
Truth be told, Hohmann’s victory was interesting in itself. A last-minute inclusion following the pullout of Ruslan Chinakhov of Russia, Hohmann made the most out of his campaign. He booked in a late flight, arrived in Manila midnight before the tournament, and teetered on the brink of elimination most of the way. The Hitman even missed the players’ meeting because he arrived in the Philippines midnight before the event! And I kid you not!
Congratulations Thorsten! Mabuhay!
