I was browsing sites on developments concerning the 2008 Beijing Olympics when I came upon news about the Speedo LZR Racer swimsuit, which is making noise in the sport of swimming! Developed with NASA, the Speedo LZR Racer swimsuits reputedly make swimmers go 2% faster! Two percent may not mean a lot, but we’re taking about the Olympics here, friends! Two percent is like an eternity in the Games! And I kid you not!
Since the Speedo LZR Racer swimsuit debut in February 2008, a total of 19 long-course world records have been set and four short-course marks! Wow! That’s a lot of shattered records in anyone’s book! And they weren’t wearing women’s tankinis, dear swimmers! And get this, the new one-piece swimwear has been worn in all but one of the 23 records! Awesome stat! Jessica Hardy of the United States became the latest record-holder in the women's 50-meter breaststroke at the short-course world championships.
Despite claims of buoyancy and technological doping by some critics, the Speedo LZR Racer swimsuit has not been banned by swimming’s world governing body. Even Mark Schubert, United States head coach, believes that every record in the sport could fall at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Mark Schubert went as far as recommending that every American wear the Speedo suit at the Olympic trials in June 2008, even if they are sponsored by another company! Mataray! Well, I guess, after all is said and done, it all boils down to two things, i.e., performance and belief in the product! I sincerely feel that the Speedo LZR Racer swimsuit will be good for the sport. And it goes without saying that swimmers, regardless of whether they are wearing women’s tankinis, a one-piece swimwear or Speedo LZR Racer swimsuits, still have to swim hard and give it all in the 2008 Beijing Olympics!
