Friends, here are pictures from Day 1 of the first Senate President Manny Villar Cup Billiards Tournament being held from May 6 to 10, 2008, at the Sports Center of the StarMall in Alabang, 
The first day of the highly anticipated Senate President Manny Villar Cup Billiards Tournament started with the on-site registration for the lower rank professional group at 7:00 AM. A prayer started off the opening ceremonies, which began exactly at 10:00 AM.

Efren Bata Reyes with Mr. Aristeo "Putch" Puyat (2nd from right, in Barong Tagalog), long-time billiards patron and the Godfather of Philippine pool. Mr. Aristeo Puyat owns Puyat Sports, the most successful billiards organization in the country, which has two of the best known world champions in its roster of players - Efren Bata Reyes and Francisco Django Bustamante. 
Some of the professional pool players taking the Oath of Sportsmanship. They include Mary Ann Basas, Rubilen Amit, Dennis Orcollo, Roberto Gomez, Ronnie Alcano, and Franciso Django Bustamante.
No less than Hall of Famer Efren Bata Reyes led the Oath of Sportsmanship rites at the Senate President Manny Villar Cup Billiards Tournament. The Magician is also the able Vice President of the Billiards Managers and Professional Players Association.

It's Senate President Manny Villar with his opening remarks! The Senate President's thoughts focused on the importance of sports in the country, with emphasis on billiards and the need to further develop it and produce world-class champions. The beloved senator also elaborated on the colorful history of the sport and how it has brought honor and glory to the country in the past and present. 
The Honorable Senate President Manny Villar also expressed his appreciation to the players, organizers, and personalities who graced the opening of the billiards tournament at the StarMall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
Among the notable guests was Artemio "Temy" Simundac,Vice Mayor of Muntinlupa City
Senate President Manny Villar elaborates more on some of the highlights of the billiards tournaments, e.g., Play with the Pro, which drew a big round of applause from everyone present! And I kid you not!

Nice blog. I saw some of the actions of this tournament but failed to watch the main game.
