National Collegiate Billiards League GraphicCongratulations to the Tigers Billiards Team of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) for posting a shutout victory over the Green Archers at the inaugural match of the National Collegiate Billiards League held at the Manila Ocean Park over the weekend, November 20, 2010! And oh! ‘Twas not just a victory – but a shutout! And I kid you not!

Jose Rizal University and St. Clare Colleges also scored wins against Fatima University and Don Bosco Technical College, respectively. They join the opening day winners in the historic tournament backed by none other than the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and GSM Blue.

Gerthee Estrella and Aaron Cedric Gonzales ably led UST to victory, making short work of Chester Kevin Labez, 7-1 in 9-ball, and Chester Kevin Labez, 7-3 in 10-ball, respectively. The Tigers’ dynamic pair in the persons of Conrad Cruz and Michael Hipolito also humbled La Salle’s Earl John Velasco and Lance Barlaan in the 8-ball doubles competition, 5-0. Incidentally, Aaron Cedric Gonzales is a proud member of bilyar.NET (BDN), the numero uno billiards forum in the Pool Capital of the World.

Former senator Robert Jaworski led the opening rites. Jaworski highlighted the importance of billiards to the Filipinos, with emphasis on how we excel in such.

For those not in the know, the historic completion is supported by Accel, Star Billiards, Manila Ocean Park, The Philippine Star, Malungai Life Oil, Mediacom, Human Plus Probiotics, Niknok Pritson Manok, Brunswick, businessman Hermie Esguerra, Puyat Sports, Bugsy Promotions, Negros Billiards Stable, and Star Paper of BSCP president Mr. Sebastian Chua.
