Dennis Orcollo Wins World 8-Ball Championship!
Congratulations to Bugsy Promotions’ Dennis Orcollo for being the third Filipino in eight years to rule the World 8-Ball Championship! Orcollo, aka The Robocop, destroyed Neils Feijen, aka The Terminaor, (10-3), in the World Pool/Billiards Association-sanctioned finals to capture the 2011 crown at the Fujairah Exhibition Center in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.
Orcollo hardly gave Feijen a chance in their championship match. Armed with razor-sharp pocketing and excellent cue ball control, Bislig, Surigao del Sur’s favorite son won the lag then raced off to a 5-0 lead before permitting Feijen to get his chance at the table. At 5-3, the Robocop found himself back on the green felt again. He then made another 5-0 roll to literally run away with the $40,000 championship! Feijen settled for $25,000.
Orcollo’s stirring performance duplicated the World 8-Ball title conquests made by none other than Efren Bata Reyes, aka The Magician, in 2004, and Ronnie Alcano, aka The Volcano, in 2007.
For those not in the know, the only World 8-Ball crowns that the Filipino pool champions failed to win were those in 2005 (won by Taiwanese Wu Chia-ching), 2008 (German Ralf Souquet) and 2010 (Englishman Karl Boyes). The event was not held in 2006 and 2009.
Lest I forget, Orcollo is among the Athletes of the Year to be feted by the Philippine Sportswriters Association Saturday. And I kid you not! The best of luck, Dennis!
Congratulations, Dennis! Mabuhay!
