Jeffrey De Luna Subdues Ronnie Alcano and Wins Star Billiards 10-Ball – January 2011 Leg!
Filipino pool player Jeffrey De Luna, aka The Bull, De Luna defeated former World 9-ball and World 8-ball champion Ronato Alcano, aka The Volcano, 9-0, to rule the January 2011 leg of the Star Billiards 10-Ball tournament! And I kid you not! Held at the Star Billiards Center in Grace Village, Quezon City, the competition was hosted by none other than Mr. Sebastian Chua.
De Luna, a 2006 Doha Asian Games 9-ball silver medalist and 2007 Manny Pacquiao International 9-ball champion, took home the top prize of Php P100,000. Alcano, from the Negros Billiards Stable, received the runner-up prize of Phph20,000.
On route to the finals, The Bull and the Volcano scored victories over Carlo Biado, 9-5, and Dennis Orcollo, aka Robocop, respectively. Orcollo, who is the 2010 World Pool Master champion, is popularly known as the Philippine Money Game King. He plays under Bugsy Promotions. Biado and Orcollo both went home with Php 4,000 each.
Fifth to 8th placers received Php2,500 and included Warren "Warrior" Kiamco, Lee Vann "The Slayer" Corteza, Demosthenes "Plong-Plong" Pulpul, and Roland dela Cruz. Ninth to 16th placers pocketed Php1,500 each, and included Roberto Gomez, Elvis Calasang, Jordan Legaspi, Carlos Ruiz, Dondon Razalan, Joven Bustamante, John Salazar, and Jericho Banares.
