Billiards in the Philippines is up for more excitement as Francisco Django Bustamante, the All Around Champion of the 2008 Derby City Classic and winner of the International Pool Tour’s 2nd Challenge Match, beat newcomers Carlo Biado and Russian Petiza to secure a slot in the semifinals round of the $30,000 San Miguel Beer-Quezon City 9-Ball Championship held at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City! Ramil Gallego also overpowered both Rodolfo Luat, aka Boy Samson, and Dondon Razalan, earning him the second slot (of four) in the semifinals.

Francisco Bustamante ended the upset runs made by Carlo Biado (9-4 in the 3rd round) and Russian Petiza (9-7 in the quarterfinals). It was Biado who stunned World Pool Champions Efren Bata Reyes, aka The Magician, and Ronnie Alcano, aka The Volcano, on opening day, while Petiza surprised everyone with his win over Alex Pagulayan, aka The Lion. Django Bustamante came through via a five-rack run from a 3-3 tie against Carlo Biado, winning the match in 13 racks. Bustamante then returned to the TV table against Russian Petiza, and took the match point via a golden break! And I kid you not!

Ramil Gallego joined Francisco Django Bustamante in the semifinals with a 9-6 victory over Rodolfo Luat. Gallego followed this with a scintillating 9-5 win over Dondon Razalan.

Roberto Gomez, aka Superman, and Dennis Orcollo, aka Robocop, are the two other billiard superstars remaining in contention for the championship as of this moment. Gomez needs to survive two more matches to realize a slot in the semifinals. Moreover, Dondon Razalan, Petiza and Leonardo Didal are the other Filipino pool players still in contention.

The $30,000 San Miguel Beer-Quezon City 9-Ball Championship has a whopping $10,000 as its top prize! It is organized by Puyat Sports, Bugsy Promotions, and Negros Billiards Stable and sponsored by the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR), Trinoma, Philippine Star, Ayala Malls, and Philippine Poker Tour (PPT).
