Team Philippines Wins the 2007 Kabayan San Miguel Beer World 9-Ball Challenge: RP vs. Rest of the World!

Marlon Manalo GraphicTeam Philippines, headed by no less than Ronato Alcano, aka The Volcano, and Marlon Manalo, aka Marvelous, won the 2007 Kabayan San Miguel Beer (SMB) World 9-Ball Challenge: RP versus Rest of the World billiards title at the Filipiniana Hotel in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines.

Ronnie Alcano, the 2006 World Pool Champion, and Marlon Manalo, the 2005 Texas Hold'em Billiards Champion, received strong backing from the other notable pool players that made up Team Philippines, i.e., Gandy Valle (1998 Asian Games gold medalist), Jeffrey de Luna (aka Jeff Bata, 2007 Manny Pacquiao Open 9-ball Champion), and Antonio Gabica, aka Gaga, to win with a very convincing score of 31-19 against the Rest of The World. Team Philippines also bagged the $20,000 cash prize for winning the billiards competition.

The World Team was composed of Rodney Morris of the United States, Marcus Chamat of Sweden, Karl Boyes, Darren Appleton, and Scott Higgins of England made up the World Team. They settled for the $10,000 runner-up prize.

Highlights of the RP vs. The Rest of the World Billiard Competition

Ronnie Alcano will kickoff the Negros Oriental International 9-Ball Championships at the Dumaguete Convention Center on November 14, 2007. The Volcano will also lead the 13-player national squad of the Billiards & Snooker Congress of the Philippines in the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand. Again, congratulations to Team Philippines!
